Moodle is the best one of free course management system (CMS) which helps educators create effective online learning communities. The quiz module in Moodle offers an easy way for educators to make quizzes as a part of their online learning courses for effective practices.

There are three steps to making a quiz in Moodle. Just look at the following steps.

Step 1. Create Quiz and Adjust Settings

1. Log on your Moodle site as usual.
2. Click on the link of course name in which you want to create a quiz.
3. In the upper right-hand corner of the front page of your course, click Turn Editing On.
4. In the section where you want to make a quiz, click “Add an activity”, and select “Quiz” in the drop-down list.
5. Give your quiz a name and add an introduction to your quiz.
6. Select the date and times for the quiz to make it accessible by the students, and then click Save Changes.

Step 2. Create Questions

1. Create a Category to store your questions in the database. Click Edit Category.
2. Type in the name of the category and any category information in the Category Info field. Then click Add.
3. Choose the question type you want to create from the drop down menu called Create New Question. This will take you to the question form.
   There are 10 question types you can create in Moodle: Multiple Choice, Short Answer, Numerical, True/False, Matching, Embedded Answers (Cloze), Random Short-Answer Matching, Description, Calculated, and Essay.
4. Type in question name (it helps you find this question again when you need), question text (it means to ask the question you want others to answer) and some answers. For multiple choice questions, please identity the correct answer. You also can fill out feedback if you want students to have some additional information after they answer the question.
5. Click Save Changes and finish the work to add one question.
6. Follow the steps to create other more questions.

Step 3. Put Questions into Quiz and Assign Points

1. Click Edit to return to the Edit Quiz screen. Tick the boxes next to the question names which you want to add to quiz and then click Add to Quiz.
2. Change the points in the grading boxes if you want them to be worth more than one point and then click Save Changes.

After these steps, a quiz is created. As the easiest way to create quizzes in Moodle quickly, Quiz module offers fundamental and flexible features to meet the practical requirements. Therefore, it may not support some advanced applications such as importing audio, customizing background or collecting results. Google Docs supports 7 question types: Text, Paragraph text, Multiple choice, Checkboxes, Choose from a list, Scale and Grid. Only multiple choice questions created by Google Docs can be graded automatically. This tutorial will show you the steps to grade the multiple-choice quiz with Google Docs.

Step 1 – Enter answer key

To simplify the grading work, take the quiz yourself before any students take the quiz. Enter the right answers for the quiz and then click Submit.

• The IF formula is similar with Excel, the syntax for the IF function is:=IF ( test, then_value, otherwise_value ) test – a value or expression that is tested to see if it is true or false.

• Input question 1, 2 and 3 by sequence to column F, G and H to store the score for question 1, 2 and 3.
• In cell F3, enter “=if($C3=$C$2,100,0)”, and then select and drag the cell to the end of the question column7. You will see the score of question 1 for each student is graded automatically.
• Then, enter “=if($D3=$D$2,100,0)” and “=if($E3=$E$2,100,0)” to G3 and H3, and do the same steps as F3. After these, you will view the score of each question for each student.

3. Summary the score for each student

Input Total Score to column I to store the total score for each student.

In cell I3, enter “=sum(F3,G3,H3)” to calculate the total score for each student, and then select and drag I3 to I7. Each student’s score for taking the quiz is shown on column I. You saved all that time for grading the quiz with the Formula!

Step 4 – Export the quiz score

Google Docs lets you download the quiz score spreadsheet as CSV, HTML, Text, Excel, OpenOffice and PDF format. By clicking File -> Download as, you will get the score report with ease.

You also can view the summary with graphs charting. Particularly for knowing how much knowledge students master, the summary response is great – especially since you can always click “see complete responses” and have them available to you immediately.

As soon as you’re done and your quiz form has been saved, you can go ahead and close this window. Your form will feed into a spreadsheet in Google Docs. The spreadsheet is private by default, even though your form is public.

If you wish, you can share the quiz spreadsheet with others or publish it, but the choice is yours. You can also go in and manually add data to your spreadsheet without having to rely on the form or use the data to make charts. About sharing quiz spreadsheet online to let other take the quiz, there are 2 ways: embed the quizzes to blogs or websites and Email others the quizzes.

Embed the quizzes to your blogs or website

You can embed the quizzes on your blogs or Web site and let people take the quiz in that way.

Simply click More actions which is on the upper right corner, and then select Embed.

After you open the Embed dialog, please copy the codes and then paste into your blog post or website.

If you want to share the quiz on your blog, just log in your blog and paste the code to the post you want to embed under the HTML mode.

If you want to embed the quiz on Website, just paste the page to the web page. By default, the quiz you create is 760*780, you can also resize the embed area by modifying the number of width and height.

Email others the quizzes and invite them to take quizzes

The Email this form button lets you email the quiz to specified persons. You can input the email addresses one by one with commas spaced, or you also can choose the email from your contacts.

After that, click Send to send the quiz invitation to these users to invite them take the quiz. Then, the quiz-takers can view and take the quiz in their E-mail address or by clicking the quiz link.

Also, you can send the quiz link directly to others with the link at the bottom of the page. And then send the link to others.

Tip: Custom the quiz confirmation information

By clicking “Edit confirmation”, it will let you edit the confirmation information which appears after quiz-taker finish the quiz.
